Upcoming Geek Breakfast

It is time again for our monthly Geek Breakfast. The venue is the Oakhusrt Hotel, George. We have arranged a special deal with them. For R50 we get a decent breakfast plus bottomless coffee / tea. Anything else (cappuccino, etc, will be for your own account). To reserve your seat, you must please pay in advance, due to the fact that we need to confirm and pay by the 9th of October 2012. Next Geek Breakfast
The ICT incubator project is gaining momentum fast, and now needs your input.
The SEDA appointed consultant doing the feasibility study will be here next week, and we thought it would be great if we could get him and everyone else together to answer some questions.
Those of you that have already indicated your interest in be a part of the incubator really needs to be there, but it is also important to get a good industry representation there.
As the consultant is only in George next week we are arranging a special geek breakfast for next Friday morning, the 1st of June, at 9am.
Venue is Cappuccinos at the Garden Route Mall. We have arranged a special deal with them. For R50 we get a decent breakfast plus bottomless coffee / tea. Anything else (cappuccino, etc, will be for your own account)
Please try your best to attend, as there will be lots of other stuff we will talk about as well, including the electronics club, the upcoming tech conference and more.
The topics that will be discussed includes:
- The ICT Incubator
- The Garden Route Tech conference taking place later this year
- Tech innovation trade missions into George happening later this year
- The Electronics club
We will be joined by representatives from the ICT Department of the Western Cape Provincial Government as well as SEDA, whom will be there to answer questions re the Incubator.

Green Technology Conference
The annual Garden Route Green Technology Expo will be in its second year this year, and we plan on making it a showcase for green technology. In order to make this event a huge success we will need your help.The conference will take place in the last week of October, and will be hosted in the George Civic Center. The venue will be used as follows:
- Main Hall - Exhibitors
- Banquet Hall - School competitions (robot wars, LAN parties), hackathon and other events. On the Saturday night the Gala dinner will be hosted in this hall
- Auditorium - Speakers, Pitch sessions and announcements

Geek Breakfast
To all of you that attended our #geekbreakfast in February, we'd like to extend a big thank you for making the event such a success. We had over 20 members attend, which was a great turnout.
The next #geekbreakfast will take place this coming Friday the 30th, at 9am at Office Reliance. As usual R20 will buy coffee and something to snack on.

GARDEN ROUTE IT CONSORTIUM READY TO BECOME TECHNOLOGY HUB
A consortium of Garden Route based companies is ready to launch an IT technology hub in George which will create jobs and train up new skills.
George’s IT company owner Imel Rautenbach is currently drumming up support for the initiative at provincial and national level. The consortium aims to use the Western Cape Province’s business arm to market and develop in order to get launched nationally and internationally. IT technology and electronic centred businesses will be the engine that will drive this local initiative. "The idea behind pooling resources and skills is to keep all our software and hardware developmental work in the Garden Route. We already have around 30 businesses on our data base that have all the necessary skills and technology to form the nucleus. “
Public update session
There will be a general Garden Route Consortium update session as part fo the upcoming geek breakfast at the Hungry Camel in George at 9am on the 27th of Jan.
The update will include some background plus details on the press release that will be going to the George Herold shortly. All are welcome to attend the session.
Second founders meeting
A second founders meetign will take place at Office Reliance on Monday the 30th November at 11:30am.
All interested parties are welcome to come along and give input on the formation of this initiative.
